Olam Ghana, a leading supply chain manager of agri-products and one of Ghana’s biggest cocoa buying agencies, was named as the Best Company Employer in Ghana at the seventh Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) Industry and Quality Awards held in Accra at the weekend.

The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) is a voluntary business association with over 1,200 members, comprising small, medium and large-scale manufacturing and services industries in agro-processing (food and beverages), agri-business, pharmaceuticals, electronics and electrical, telecommunications, information technology, utilities, service industries, transport, construction, textiles, garments and leather, banking and advertising.

Established in 1958, the Association annually rewards and honours companies which achieve outstanding successes in various areas of industry and innovation in the year under review. The AGI’s purpose is to motivate its members to strive for excellence by demonstrating that their performances and achievements are valued and recognized.

This year`s Awards event, also marking the AGI’s 60th anniversary, was held under the theme: “Transforming the Ghanaian Economy through Industrialization” and covered nine major award categories and 23 sector awards.

Olam Ghana was adjudged the Best Company Employer by an independent technical committee, made up of highly accomplished experts, which vetted and evaluated all nominations on the basis of the Association’s established perspectives and criteria.

It may be recalled that barely a month ago, Olam was simultaneously named Best Company in the Agriculture and Agribusiness sector, the seventh (7th) overall best performing company in Ghana and also decorated as the best performing New Entrant at the 17th Ghana Club 100 Awards organised by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre.

Olam Ghana creates employment for a large workforce which services over 15 million distributors, retailers and consumers nationwide. With a headcount of 1,064, the company has standardized a framework for recognition schemes across all its operations in Ghana and has carried out rigorous employee engagement initiatives over the period. The company also emphasizes good talent practices to ensure that a strong and diverse talent pool is engaged for its operations.

“We are grateful for this recognition which clearly endorses the high level of the human resource practices we adopt in Olam. Talent development remains a primary focus at all levels of our operations to support the development of existing and new capabilities as we continue our journey to strengthen a highly engaged and inspired team,” said Mr. Kenneth Antwi, National HR Head at Olam.

Mr. Antwi dedicated the award to the entire workforce of the company.
