      CONCERTS

      Rock 'n' roll duo Kitty & The Rooster plays a release party at the ANZA Club for its debut album One Gig Hard Drive.

      The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC opens its season with Grammy-winning Mexican superstar Aida Cuevas and by her band Mariachi Juvenil Tecalitlán.

      The SeaWheeze Sunset Festival at Brockton Point features performances by American DJ and producer Diplo and local DJ Felix Cartal.

      Percussionist Trichy Sankaran collaborates with Vancouver-based world-jazz ensemble The Offering of Curtis Andrews at Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre.

      Soul-blues band the Mojo Stars plays the The Railway Stage & Beer Café.

      Garage-pop band the Orange Kyte plays the Lido, with guests Alex Little & The Suspicious Minds and tunes from Lauren Ray.

       

      BENEFITS

      The UBC Farm Farmers' Market features produce grown steps from the market stalls, treats and crafts from vendors, music, and free farm tours.

      FORUMS

      Ira Glass, creator of public radio's This American Life, discusses seven things he's learned during a talk at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

      A botanist describes the main evolutionary groups of plants and how they differ, while touching on the basic morphology and anatomy of plants, at VanDusen Botanical Garden's Botany Basics for Gardeners.

      Official Launch Street Party for Curious Imaginings--an immersive sculpture exhibition featuring the hyper-realist, fantastical creatures of Australian artist Patricia Piccinini--at Strathcona’s historic Patricia Hotel.

      ShowOff is a live painting event and fundraiser at Federation Gallery featuring artists David Langevin, William Liao, Louise Nicholson, and Alan Wylie.

      Douglas Coupland’s new radical art installation at the Vancouver Aquarium, Vortex, takes an imaginative journey to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, immersing viewers in the ocean-plastic pollution crisis.

      The sixth annual Delta Studio Stomp is a two-day open-studio tour where visitors can meet the artists, see their work, and watch them create at various studios throughout Delta.

      The Taboo Revue Burlesque Variety Show at the WISE Hall supports the not-for-profit Screaming Chicken Theatrical Society, with funds use to support, develop, and present burlesque in Vancouver.

      The two-day Grand Prix of Art 2018 is an outdoor painting competition where artists race against the clock to complete a work of art at locations throughout Steveston.

      The Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival presents performances of As You Like It in Vanier Park.

      First Impressions Theatre presents its final performance of Cyrano, a version of the classic swashbuckling adventure of Cyrano De Bergerac, at Deep Cove Shaw Theatre.

      Performance at Jericho Arts Centre of David Hare's new translation of the Bertolt Brecht masterpiece, The Life of Galileo, directed by Michael Fera.

      The Royal Canadian Air Farce's Craig Lauzon performs Tales of an Urban Indian, a site-specific work staged entirely on a moving transit bus, at Presentation House Theatre.

      Haida Now: A Visual Feast of Innovation and Tradition at the Museum of Vancouver is guest-curated by Kwiaahwah Jones and features more than 450 works by carvers, weavers, photographers and print makers, collected as early as the 1890s.

      Richmond's Lipont Place hosts Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, which focuses on the legendary RMS Titanic's compelling human stories through more than 120 authentic artifacts and extensive room re-creations.

      Arts of Resistance: Politics and The Past In Latin America at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC exhibition illustrates how Latin American communities use traditional or historic art forms to express contemporary political realities.

      In a Different Light: Reflecting on Northwest Coast Art at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC features more than 110 historical indigenous artworks and explores what we can learn from these works and how they relate to indigenous peoples’ relationships to their lands.

      Wild Things: The Power of Nature in Our Lives at the Museum of Vancouver delves into the life stories of local animals and plants—how they relate to each other and how they connect people to nature in the city.

       

      ATTRACTIONS

      Science World features hundreds of interactive exhibits in five permanent galleries, live science demonstrations and workshops, and giant movies in the Omnimax Theatre.

      The Vancouver Aquarium features almost 800 animal species in galleries ranging from Canada's Arctic to the Amazon rainforest.

      The 22-hectare VanDusen Botanical Garden features over 255,000 plants from around the world, a restaurant, a garden shop, and a horticulture library.

      The Capilano Suspension Bridge features seven cable bridges suspended in trees, the Living Forest exhibit, totem pole collection, CLIFFWALK, and Treetop Adventure.

      At the Bloedel Conservatory you can take in more than 200 free-flying exotic birds and 500 exotic plants and flowers.

      The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is an authentic representation of an age-old garden tradition that reached its peak in the Ming Dynasty.

      Screening at Vancity Theatre of The Cakemaker, director Ophir Raul Graizer's tender story of hidden love, challenged faith, and unwittingly shared grief.

      Drive-in Nights at River District features screenings at River District Vancouver of Ant Man & The Wasp and Solo: A Star Wars Movie.

      Screening at Vancity Theatre of Under the Tree, director Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson's comedy-drama about a typical spat between suburbanites that spirals violently out of control.

      Screening at the Cinematheque of Israfil, director Ida Panahandeh’s drama about a widow in northern Iran, grieving her son’s death, who reencounters her first love.
