Becirovic meets with Sweden’s Minister for EU Affairs, highlights threats to Bosnia’s stability

Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Becirovic met with Jessica Rosencrantz, Sweden’s Minister for EU Affairs, emphasising Sweden’s long-standing role as one of BiH’s most significant bilateral donors and a key partner in its post-war reconstruction.

Becirovic acknowledged Sweden’s decades-long support, particularly in infrastructure development, private sector growth, and strengthening civil society. He also praised Sweden’s commitment to advancing human rights, democracy, and sustainable management of natural resources in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the meeting, the Presidency member raised concerns about escalating security threats facing the country. He warned that the separatist leadership in Republika Srpska is openly and systematically undermining Bosnia and Herzegovina’s constitutional framework, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

He called for a strong and timely response from both domestic institutions and the international community to counter any attempts to dismantle the foundations of the Dayton Peace Agreement. Becirovic stressed that preserving peace, stability, and BiH’s European and Euro-Atlantic path requires unwavering international support. He also underlined that attacks on state institutions, including challenges to the Constitutional Court and the Office of the High Representative, must not be tolerated.

Minister Rosencrantz reaffirmed Sweden’s full and unconditional support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. She strongly condemned the Republika Srpska entity’s attacks on the country’s constitutional order and expressed Sweden’s firm commitment to maintaining peace and stability in BiH, as well as supporting its EU and NATO aspirations.

She emphasised that respect for the Dayton Peace Agreement and the effective functioning of democratic institutions are essential for the country's long-term stability and future. Rosencrantz reiterated Sweden’s support for BiH’s EU integration and the broader enlargement of the EU to the Western Balkans, highlighting that the prospect of membership remains a powerful driver of reforms and socio-economic progress.

Minister Rosencrantz also recalled Becirovic’s visit to Sweden in August of last year, noting that it significantly contributed to strengthening high-level dialogue and deepening both bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two nations.
