HONESTLY, THE THIRD TIME THAT THAT HAPPENS, I WAS SCARED AND I MOVED FROM THERE. MORE THAN TEN PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN THE STAND ON THE DAVIS STABBINGS THAT TERRORIZED THE COMMUNITY TWO YEARS AGO. A FOCUS POINT TODAY WAS EVIDENCE BEFORE THE JURY THAT CAME IN THE FORM OF GRAPHIC PHOTOS AND VIDEOS OF THE CRIME SCENES AND THE TWO VICTIMS OF THE DEADLY STABBINGS, DAVID BREAUX AND KARIM ABOU NAJEM. THERE WAS A VERY LARGE PUDDLE OF BLOOD, AND THEN HE WAS WEARING DARK CLOTHES, SO IT WAS HARD TO TELL UNTIL YOU GOT UP CLOSE THAT HE HAD A LOT OF CUTS THROUGH HIS FABRIC OF HIS SHIRT, AS WELL AS TESTIMONY FROM ONE OF THE WITNESSES WHO ATTEMPTED LIFE SAVING MEASURES ON KARIM ABOU NAJIM. AND THEN I HEARD THEM SAY, MY GOD. DEAR GOD, SOMEBODY HELP ME. AND WHEN THEY SAID THAT. THEIR VOICE SOUNDED WEAKER. TODAY’S EVIDENCE BEFORE THE JURY ALSO INVOLVED A TWO HOUR LOOK INTO CARLOS DOMINGUEZ’S PHONE DATA, OR A FORENSIC ASSISTANCE ANALYST INVOLVED IN THE CASE. EACH PEN CORRESPONDS WITH AN ENTRY IN THAT DATABASE. FOUND INFORMATION ON DOMINGUEZ’S LOCATIONS, BROWSING DATA WHICH INCLUDED OVER 500 IMAGES OF KNIVES. IN DECEMBER 2022. Christopher Kumata, a forensic assistance analyst at the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office, talked about what he found accessing Dominguez’s electronics. He found a cached image of a makeshift memorial and images of knives on his phone.
Prosecutors on Monday stated that Dominguez had bought a dirk from Amazon. A knife protective sheath found at the scene of Breaux’s stabbing had DNA that matched with Dominguez.
At 2:09 p.m., Abou Najm’s father walked into the courtroom. He left before a noon lunch break when graphic video of his son was played before the jury. The prosecutor on Monday stated that Abou Najm had 52 stab wounds.
The 20-year-old was described by loved ones as having a bright future ahead of him. He was on his way back home from an undergraduate award ceremony when he was attacked at Sycamore Park.
As of 2:20 p.m., the defense had no questions in response to the testimonies.
While prosecutors are trying to make a case to jurors that Dominguez was a disgruntled soon-to-be-expelled UC Davis student who recently broke up with his girlfriend, the defense tried to draw emotion in a different way.
Dominguez’s attorney on Monday told jurors that Dominguez was an immigrant from El Salvador who became an honors student and athlete who would later struggle with schizophrenia.
