Ireland secure first win, Bangladesh stay unbeaten in Women’s WC Qualifier

LAHORE  -  Ireland recorded their first win of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Qualifier with a dominant 46-run victory over Thailand, while Bangladesh continued their unbeaten run, outclassing Scotland to top the group standings.

Ireland’s triumph was built on a commanding batting display and a stellar bowling effort led by Louise Little. After opting to bat first, Ireland posted a formidable 305/4, riding on three half-centuries. Gaby Lewis anchored the innings with a polished 75, supported by Amy Hunter’s fluent 76 and Leah Paul’s explosive 67* off 40 balls. Earlier, Lewis and Sarah Forbes provided a solid 88-run opening stand before Amy Hunter and Orla Prendergast chipped in valuable runs in the middle. Thailand started their chase steadily with a 34-run opening partnership, but Ireland’s bowlers soon took control. A quick collapse reduced Thailand to 76/4 before a resilient 90-run stand between NaruemolChaiwai and Phannita Maya revived their hopes. However, Little’s decisive breakthroughs removing both set batters – turnedthe tide. Despite a spirited 59 bySuwananKhiaoto, Thailandwere bowled out for 259. Ailsa Lister’s run out deepened the crisis, before Sarah Bryce also fell trying to rebuild. However, a late surge from Priyanaz Chatterji (53) and Rachel Slater (63*) brought Scotland back into the contest with a fiery 115-run eighth-wicket stand. Despite their valiant effort, Scotland could only reach 242/9 in 50 overs.
