Tourism continued to maintain the pace of double-digit growth it exhibited in the first two months of the year, as well as during the month of March.
Official data on the Movement of Citizens show that the number of foreigners entering Albanian territory in the third month was around 565,000, or 47.1% more than March 2023. According to INSTAT, entries of Albanian and foreign citizens into Albanian territory in March 2024 were 1,150,442. This figure represents an increase of 35.9% compared to March 2023.
Meanwhile, exits of Albanian and foreign citizens from the territory of Albania during March 2024 were 1,175,710, marking an increase of 39.6% compared to the same period a year earlier.
Tour operators expect 2024 to be an overall successful year for the sector, with double-digit growth driven by international promotion that Albania has gained through international media, social networks, and marketing as an economic destination compared to other countries.
The groups expected to dominate this summer are Italians, while there is also an increase in Spaniards, who are coming not only in organized groups but also as individuals. Meanwhile, Poles remain the largest organized group.
Entries of citizens
"In March 2024, the number of Albanian citizens entering Albanian territory was 585,467. This number increased by 26.6% compared to March 2023. The number of foreign citizens entering Albanian territory was 564,975. This number increased by 47.1% compared to the same period in 2023," evaluates INSTAT.
As a quarterly figure, the number of foreigners in Albanian territory has exceeded 1.5 million with a growth of 43.4%.
Exits of citizens
"The exits of Albanian citizens from the territory of Albania during March 2024 were 604,102. Compared to March 2023, this figure increased by 30.6%. The exits of foreign citizens from the territory of Albania during March 2024 were 571,608. Compared to the same period a year earlier, this figure increased by 50.4%.
In March 2024, the region with the highest number of entries of foreign citizens into Albania is the European region with 539,683 citizens, followed by America and East Asia and the Pacific, with 14,267 and 5,254 citizens respectively," evaluates INSTAT.
