Warren Buffett-owned electronics distributor expands in Fort Worth and plans to hire

The company, TTI, employs 1,020 workers locally, up from about 870 in 2014.

TTI, a global distributor of electronic components that's owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway, is moving into a new 641,000-square-foot distribution center in North Fort Worth with plans to expand its workforce.

The new building at 3737 Meacham Blvd. was built on 45.8 acres in the Mercantile Center Business Park and will consolidate and replace TTI's current warehouse operations. When construction began in 2016, the estimated price tag was $40 million.

TTI "is actively hiring for the new location" along with transferring employees from other facilities, said Traci Nelson, vice president of human resources. The company employs 1,020 workers locally, up from about 870 in 2014.

"It's still a move in motion and we anticipate hiring through the new year," Nelson said.

The company's warehouse operations have been in three different buildings, including a 190,000-square-foot warehouse that it leased in the Mercantile business park. Business development and internet sales are at 5050 Mark IV Parkway. Its corporate headquarters will remain nearby at 2441 Northeast Parkway.

"We chose to consolidate our distribution and value-added operation under one roof," Bill Speer, TTI's national director of facilities and planning, said in a statement. "We wanted a high-quality building in which we could gain efficiencies by not having duplicate processes, such as shipping and receiving."

The new structure includes an advanced distribution setup. Inside are three-story carousels that will store the highest-volume products and nearly 2 miles of conveyors to move products from 30-foot-tall shelving to one of the 38 shipping docks.
